ASHSHELL

Form studies with some researches thinking about which meaning can have an ashtray. By developing the metaphor of the pearl in the sea shell, where the pearl is protected with this fragile but safe shell, I try to transcipt the same idea with ashes. How can we protect the ashes, without loose the beauty of the simple form of the ashtray?? All the reflexion for this object was how to have a complex object with hidden spaces while simplifying the form. i develop a 3-dimensional object with positiv and negativ curved form, with absence of mass.

This biomorphic form is a continuity of curves lines, intermingling together to form a fluid folding shape with concavity spaces. This simple/complex form is

linked with the nature, giving a feeling of something pur, guiding by directional, reverse and parabolic lines. There are two different part of the ashtray: one is

the inside, a complex of hidden spaces and the other one is the skin, the shell which wrap the all object. Some directional forces give to the object a dynamic composition and a fluidity through the shape. The ashes slide on the edge of the ashtray and go hide out in one of the convavity of the ashtray.

The proportions of the ashtray are designed for a house product, quite elegant, an inside product, which doesn't need to be hidden from the table. Ashes are a static result of the ephemeral act of smoking. That's why, this object was thought more about the "after effect" as the usability of the users.
