KRASNI – MOSCOU _ RUSSIA

PROGRAM: STUDENEZ RESTAURANT

GASTRONOMIC RESTAURANT, BAR, WINE CELLAR, CIGAR CELLAR

WON COMPETITION:  SCHEMATIC DESIGN

AREA: 1 160 SQ.M.

The space inside is articulated by 4 + 3 singulars elements, each one will evoke one of the four elements - fire, water, air, earth - and will define more intimate and singular spaces and 3 moving cylinders to access even more intimate spaces - the dining table of the chef, the wine cellar, and the cigar room.

While entering the restaurant, these 3 moving cylinders will not be visible; they appear up the ground or down the ceiling only when we want to access one of these three very privileged spaces. The ground opens, the transparent glass cylinder lifts up. As soon as we enter in, the glass gets translucent, it goes down to the wine and cigar cellars and the ground closes back. The last cylinder goes up directly to the kitchen were clients are invited to have dinner at the chef’s table.

The four others singular elements are in direct relationship with the four natural elements -fire, water, air, earth. Each one defines a specific space. The fire is the central point of the bar set up, organized around a foyer topped by a chimney that highlights it even more. The second element is located in the center of the alley, at the entrance of the restaurant, hiding the direct view in the restaurant which is revealed only after by passing it. Its translucent wall reproduces in Chinese shadows the guests inside. By sliding through the two shifted walls, we can discover the room dedicated to the water. The glass floor let see the water below and the glass ceiling let see the pond above as well. We are submerged by the water, below and above. The lights getting through the water plays some vibrations and flakes.

In the middle of the restaurant, the second element is dedicated to the air topped by a dome that links directly the space with the sky. Here again, the wall of the cylinder do not let the restaurant see what is going on inside. In this space, relatively big, the service is custom, reflecting the historical culinary exchanges between France and Russia, which allow all the dishes, from the appetizers to the dessert, to be put for a French service- how the formal dinners were served until the 19th century before the Russian ambassador influences the French court with the “Russian service”. Finally, slightly further on the side, the last element is the space dedicated to the earth. This last one is dark, its aspect is mineral and its materially raw. By the installation of these three elements, the restaurant room is unique, rhythmed and divided in 2 spaces from the center.
